NDIS Short Term Accommodation STA – Girls Weekend Away!

NDIS STA Short Term Accommodation and LevelUp Independent Living

LevelUp Independent Client Leah and Support Worker Vittoria recently enjoyed their recent NDIS Short Term Accommodation (STA) weekend getaway on the Gold Coast. Enjoying luxury accommodation with ocean views, does it get any better than that! They also kicked up their heels and enjoy a night of entertainment and good food at the Outback Spectacular.

What is NDIS Short Term Accommodation (STA)?

Short Term Accommodation or STA, including respite, is funding for supports and accommodation for a short time away from your usual home. Your DNIS funding covers the cost of your care in a location for up to 14 days at a time. You can either have full support or you may choose to only have the accessible holiday organised on your behalf.

What is included in Short Term Accommodation (STA)?

While Short Term Accommodation (STA) providers do differ, LevelUp Independent Living offers all inclusive holiday packages or we can help organise your holiday on your behalf.

For those in need of 24/7 support, the thought of planning accessible holidays can be stressful. The LevelUp Independent team are here to help make the process easy and fun!

What is Included in your NDIS Holiday Package:

Accommodation: Our team helps you find the perfect, accessible accommodation. We partner with several luxury hotels and respite accommodation on the Sunshine Coast.

24-hour Support: Our support workers can offer 24-hour support in your accommodation for the duration, or when you require.

Activities and community participation: The LevelUp team will support you to do the things you want to do, whether that is days at the beach, exploring the city, entertainment parks, shows, galleries, you name it, we can do it.

Meals: A meal allowance will be provided so you can enjoy reservations at a local restaurant or you may refer food prepared at your accommodation.

Transport and equipment hire:  LevelUp ensures that all your transport and equipment hire is organized in advance so you can relax and enjoy your holiday.

How is Short Term Accommodation (STA) funded by the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds ‘Short Term Accommodation and Assistance’ under the Core Support category ‘Assistance with Daily Living’.

STA funding includes all basic expenses in a 24-hour period related to the service including:

  • Accommodation in an accessible facility
  • Personal care and support (including overnight disability support)
  • Food
  • Activities you and the provider agree to

The NDIS normally provides funding for up 28 days of Short Term Accommodation per year. There is some flexibility, for example you may want to use two blocks of 14 days, or for one weekend a month.

The amount of NDIS funding for your STA will depend on the level of support you require.

For example if you have very high support needs and your spouse is your primary carer you may receive 28 days. Or if you have mid-level support needs and want to build your confidence before moving out of home, the NDIS may provide enough STA funding for a night or two away from home each month.

You can find more rates in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits (previously known as the NDIS Price Guide).

How to get Short Term Accommodation (STA) included in your NDIS Plan?

Like most supports, the DNIS will fund Short Term Accommodation STA if it related to one of your goals outlined in your NDIS Plan.

For example, these goals might be ‘preparing to live independently, ‘learning new life skills’, or ‘making new friends’.

You will need to supply evidence for the NDIS to understand why your goals are reasonable and necessary for you to receive STA.  And unlike other STA Providers, LevelUp Independent Living are able to assist and guide you through the NDIS process. We take the stress out of the NDIS!

To read more about how the NDIS determines whether STA is reasonable and necessary, visit their website directly www.ndis.gov.au
